Palliative care is specialized support care administered by a trained team of physicians, nurses and specialists who work together to provide additional support at any time during a potentially serious illness. Perinatal palliative care is a family-focused team who works to provide support for babies and their families facing a difficult diagnosis, serious illness or uncertain outcome.
This skilled pediatric palliative care network of providers works in collaboration with a team of expert subspecialists through UMMC’s Center for Maternal and Fetal Care. Our multidisciplinary team works together to care for both the mother and child’s unique needs - all under one roof.
About children's palliative care
The Center for Maternal and Fetal Care draws on a palliative care network of providers to offer compassionate support and comfort throughout a family's journey at UMMC. Our intention is to help a family process information and make choices that honor what is important to them. The unique needs of children and their parents are at the center of palliative care plans. Pediatric palliative care sets goals for each child that allows them to live the best and most comfortable life possible.
